They work by interfering with the bacteria’s ability to form cell walls, which leads to the bacteria being destroyed. This helps reduce pain, swelling, and the spread of infection. Amoxicillin is often prescribed by dentists when an infection cannot be managed by local treatment alone, or when there is a risk of it spreading. The capsules are usually taken two to three times daily for a short course, as directed. It is important to complete the full course to ensure the infection is fully cleared.
